The Power of Civil Society

As representatives of civil society, NGOs can be categorized into two groups from the perspective of how they work to establish peace: advocacy NGOs, and fieldoriented NGOs. Advocacy NGOs attempt to influence the national and international processes of policy making by approaching national parliaments and international organizations. Meanwhile, field-oriented NGOs try to create peace among those in conflict. In addition, businesses as members of the private sector can also play important roles by fulfilling their corporate social responsibilities. Civil society, which comprises each of us, is rich and diverse.
