After the end of World War I, Europe underwent serious political and economic crises. Many people suffered from inflation, unemployment, and poverty particularly in the countries whose modernization was delayed and whose economies were fragile. From the 1920s onward, dictators appeared in Italy and Germany, holding antidemocratic and anticommunism views. Fascist regimes, which emerged one after another, pursued their policies by eliminating people of different nationalities and ideologies.
