Holding Guns Instead of Pens 1943

Under the national mobilization system, even students were mobilized to serve the nation. Although students of universities and vocational schools were originally exempted from conscription, they began to be drafted after the Temporary Special Provision concerning the Postponement of Conscription became effective in October 1943. From Ritsumeikan University, about 3,000 students were sent to the battlefield. Meanwhile, Korean and Taiwanese students who did not volunteer for military service were expelled from university.
