On 22 January 2021, the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW) became effective as a result of an international movement that combined the efforts of physicians, lawyers, and scientists since the 1990s. The treaty prohibits the development, testing, production, stockpiling, transfer, use and threat of use, of nuclear weapons. Since no nuclear weapon states have yet ratified the treaty, it is important to encourage many countries to ratify it.
